Pakistan Detains 121 people, Seized 182 Madrassas in Action Against Terror

Guwahati: Pakistan on Thursday said that it has intensified its crackdown against terrorists as the government announced that it has taken control of 182 madrassas and detained more than 100 people as part of its move against banned terror groups.

The interior ministry of Pakistan said that it is not a response to Indian anger over what India calls Islamabad's failure to rein in terror groups operating on Pakistani soil but it was a part of a long-planned drive.

Pakistan is facing immense global pressure to act against the terror groups. Countries like US, UN, France and others also put pressure on Pakistan to act against terrorism based on their country who carries out attack in India including Jaish-e-Mohammad who recently made a suicide bomb attack in Pulwama at Jammu and Kashmir where more than 40 CRPF jawans have been martyred on February 14.

The interior ministry of Pakistan in a statement said that the provincial governments in Pakistan have taken in their control management and administration of 182 madrassas referring to religious schools and their links to terror outfits.

The Pakistani ministry informed that the law enforcement agencies have taken 121 people under preventive detention.

In a deeply conservative Muslim nation it is difficult to decide what to do with the madrassas as it a thorny issue in Pakistan and religious schools are often used for radicalisation of youngsters to join terror outfits but such schools are the only option available to millions of poor children.

It has been reported that many banned terror groups such as JeM run such madrassas as a garb to radicalise young Pakistanis.

The Pakistan Interior ministry also informed that other institutions from different groups have been taken over including 34 schools or colleges, 163 dispensaries, 184 ambulances, five hospitals and eight offices of banned organizations.

However, a source warned that all options were on the table in case of another terrorist attack and said that if there is a new Pakistan with new thinking, it is expected to see action on the ground.

It has been said that there is still a discrepancy between what they are saying and doing.
