Power-hungry Leaders

The recent mega rally organized by Mamata Banerjee in Kolkatta where various leaders of political parties assembled had only one agenda – Modi Hatao. Other than that there was no other developmental agenda. Clearly 'Modi phobia' is very much visible amongst the opposition leaders. People like N Chandrababu Naidu, Akhilesh Yadav, Sharad Pawar, Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal and others all have personal ambition of becoming the Prime Minister of the nation. Maratha strongman Sharad Pawar, who quit Congress to form NCP due to ideological difference with Sonia Gandhi becoming AICC president, is now sharing the same dais with the Congress. Late Purno A Sangma, who was an able parliamentarian and former Lok Sabha Speaker, too had joined him by resigning from the Congress only to be duped by Sharad Pawar. Late Sangma died as an unsung hero.

Another thing which was quite noticeable was that all the leaders very tactfully skipped to declare their prospective Prime Ministerial candidate. The hidden ambition of those leaders of becoming Prime Minister is glaringly visible. As the polls are nearing there will be so many more 'Pawars' joining hands to fulfil their dream of becoming the Prime Minister even at the cost of national interests. Sharad Pawar is just the tip of iceberg. Lastly, it was comical to see cine star and BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha also sharing the dais and spitting venom on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. If he has so much dissension and dislike for the BJP, why doesn't he resign from the party? The answer is: if he does so, he has to relinquish the MP seat and along with it all perks and privileges. Alas! Another power-crazy leader! In fact, these breed are dealers, not leaders.

Dr. Ashim Chowdhury,

Ambari Guwahati.
