99 doctors dead due to COVID-19 & 1,302 infected: India Medical Association

Guwahati: National President of IMA Dr. Rajan Sharma said that while the medical profession remains the beacon of hope for the nation to lead the exit from the pandemic, COVID-19, death among doctors have become a cause for great concern.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has declared a red alert to the medicos and medical administrators as 99 doctors have fallen into the misfortunes of COVID-19, amongst which 73 were above the age of 50years, 19 in the age group of 35-50 and seven below 35 years, as per the data showed in the National Covid Registry. 1,302 of them are suffering from this pandemic. The IMA President further advocated for the senior doctors to enhance their responsibility of taking care of their "flock."

"Friendly and scientific batch posting needs to be implemented. Working hours should be tempered by concerns of safety. Providing for PPEs, training, physical distancing and sanitizers should be monitored on a daily basis. Operation theatres, labor rooms, laboratories, and casualties require special care. ICU's and Critical Care units deserve close scrutiny for adherence to best practices and protocols," Secretary-General of IMA Dr. RV Asokan said.
