Guwahati: Days after the Central Government allowed the re-opening of gymnasiums and yoga centres amid high-demand from the ailing fitness industry, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued guidelines for the reopening of the same.

In the gyms, the individuals must maintain a distance of 6 feet, as far as possible. Although the use of face masks/covers is mandatory at all times; however, during exercising and yoga, only a visor may be used.

The centre has directed the owners of the fitness centres to plan the yoga/gymnasium floors based on 4m square per person.

The cardio and strength machines must be placed 6 feet apart; additionally, they have been urged to make card-based cashless payments. Wherever possible, they should relocate materials outside.

The Centre has also urged the gymnasiums to ensure that a 6-feet gap between the trainers and the clients during personal training sessions, wherever possible.

To ensure the hands stay "clean", the people at these places must wash their hands with soap for at least 40-60 seconds, as frequently as possible. Alternatively, the use of sanitizers can be used (for at least 20 seconds), stated the Centre.

Additionally, respiratory etiquettes must be followed at all times to minimise the risk of transmission of the dreaded virus.

As a preventive measure against the spread of the virus, all yoga institutes and gyms in the containment zone areas must be kept closed.

Gyms in closed spaces are not to be used by people above 65-years of age, persons with morbidities, pregnant women, and children below the age of 10 years.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday issued new guidelines opening up more activities in areas outside the Containment Zones as part of its Unlock 3.0 strategy. The reopening of gyms and yoga centres is one among the relaxations given by the Centre.
