Chhattisgarh First Phase of Poll gets Underway

Guwahati: The first phase of Lok Sabha polls has started in Chhattisgarh today amidst Maoists' threats to boycott poll in 18 Assembly constituencies of Chhattisgarh. As scheduled by the Election Commission of India, the poll has commenced in Chhattisgarh and is expected to be peaceful and successful amidst tight security arrangements.

The state is to witness 190 candidates contesting in the fray and as per electoral rolls, there are 31,80,014 voters. The casting of votes has already kicked off at 7 am in 10 out 18 constituencies. Other constituencies started the polling process from 8 am to 5 pm.

The response of the voters in the polling centres have been impressive so far as despite being threatened by the militants, people are showing their sense of dutifulness and an urge to practice their right to cast vote. The live updates of the polling scene in Chhattisgarh show 14 per cent polling completed at 10 in the morning.
