GUWAHATI: Mangkholam Kipgen aka David Kipgen who is reportedly Commander-In-Chief of Kuki National Front has been arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell from Dwarka of Delhi NCR on Monday.

Sources said that Manhkholam was wanted in different crimes including kidnapping, firearm snatching from police, murder, extortion and etc. Many cases are lodged in various police stations across Manipur.

Earlier, the commander-in-chief of the proscribed Socialist Democratic Front of Kukiland on Friday was killed in an encounter in Churachandpur district of Manipur. The commander-in-chief was identified as Letingthang Haokip. The incident took place at 1 am on Friday when acting on a tip-off 46 Assam Rifles personnel and Churachandpur district police rushed to the spot.

The commander-in-chief was rushed to the J. N. Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal for treatment. According to police, this Kuki outfit is not a signatory to the government's Suspension of Operations (SoO). Earlier a dreaded dacoit and drug smuggler received bullet injury in an encounter with police in Dhing, Nagaon. According to reports, Nur Hussain along with a gang of 24 attacked one Ujarat Ali. The Dhing police launched an operation to nab them. Hussain tried to attack the police team while he was about to be caught by the police. Further, the accused fired upon the police. In retaliatory firings, the dreaded dacoit received bullet injury and was admitted to a hospital, sources claimed.

Sources added that Hussain and his gang unleashed terror in the area for a long time. He was also involved with illegal land grabbing apart from dacoity and drug trafficking. It could be noted that some dreaded dacoits have been brought to notice by the Assam police in the last 3-4 months. Meanwhile, a suspected arms smuggler who was arrested in a joint operation by Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Police in Karimganj district was killed in an encounter a few hours later while trying to escape.
