Congress Leader Soz backs Musharraf's Statement on Kashmiri Preference
New Delhi: In a significant turn of events, a bitter war of words begun between the BJP and Congress leader Saifuddin Soz after he commented that the former Dictator of Pakistan, Parvez Musharraf was correct when he stated that the first preference of the Kashmiris in India is their Independence.
Striking a chord of controversy, Soz gathered a heavy shower of criticism from BJP which is doing the rounds on Social Media. Saifuddin Soz had also been popular for repeatedly attracting a whirlwind of criticism through his audacious comments over various issues including the Burhan Wani incident which stirred him over the National Media.
It may be mentioned that in 2017, Soz had sparked off a major controversy when he publically stated that he would have kept Burhan Wani, the Hizbul Mujahideen operative alive for a dialogue.
Also, two months back in April, he had lit debates by stating that Kashmir’s mainstream political parties must understand the stands taken by the Hurriyat Conference and enter in a dialogue with the separatist groups.
However as per reports, in his latest spur of controversy today, Soz said “Musharraf said Kashmiris don't want to merge with Pakistan, their first choice is independence. The statement was true then and remains true now also. I say the same, but I know that it is not possible.”
Soz was a Union Minister in the first Congress-led UPA government. He joined the Congress party in 1999, after he voted against the motion of confidence by the former PM, AB Vajpayee, in Lok Sabha, same year. In 2008, he was chosen as the Congress Committee chief, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh.
