Decline in medical condition of Pranab Mukherjee, in 'septic shock': Army hospital

Guwahati: Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India, continues to be in a deep coma and on ventilator support, the New Delhi hospital where he is being treated, said. Additionally, he has suffered a septic shock due to a lung infection.

"There is a decline in the medical condition of Hon'ble Shri Pranab Mukherjee since yesterday. He is in septic shock due to his lung infection and is being managed by team of specialists. He continues to be in deep coma and on ventilator support," the Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi Cantt, where the veteran Congress leader is being treated, wrote in a statement.

The former President Pranab Mukherjee had tested positive for COVID-19 and undergone surgery for a brain clot at Army Hospital (R&R) on August 10. He has continued to be in a critical state since then.

Mukherjee, 84, had fallen down at his Rajaji Marg residence in Delhi. Following the surgery, he developed a lung infection and had a renal dysfunction, doctors said.
