Diamond face masks costing in the lakhs being sold as fashion accessory in Surat

Making the best use of the situation, markets are coming up with a variety of bizarre and interesting face masks. When Belgium came up with 'smile' face masks, a restaurant in Madurai responded with a 'porotta' mask. And, the hungry customer was confused about whether to eat it or wear it. Then came masks made of gold in Pune.

The innovations in mask making didn't stop there. The latest one is a diamond mask available in a jewelry shop in Surat. The mask, a brainchild of the shop owner Dipak Choksi is made of pure American diamonds. Adhering to government guidelines of preparing masks, cloth material is also used in the making. Talking to media, Choksi said, "As the lockdown was lifted, a customer who had a wedding at his home came to our shop and demanded unique masks for the bride and groom. So, we assigned our designers to create masks that the customer bought later."

It is now a new attraction in the shop. A customer who had come to buy jewelry for a family wedding loved these masks and bought one that matched her dress.

The cost of one diamond mask ranges between Rs 1.5 lakhs to Rs 4 lakhs. Social media welcomed the product with an overwhelming response. While some were amused by the invention, others felt it was a pure waste of money.
