'Gau vigyan': Online MCQ-based exam on cow science to be held in India

New Delhi: With a view to raising awareness about indigenous cows among citizens, online exam on 'gau vigyan' or cow science will be held annually in India. The news was declared by Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog (RKA), the cow welfare body appointed under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.  Announcing the first of its kind initiative to generate interest about "cow and its benefits", RKA Chairman Vallabhbhai Kathiria said that the exam will be national level, voluntary and conducted free of cost.

As per reports, the government body is going to conduct the first set of exams this year starting February. The official release stated that the exam will be held in four categories: Primary level up to 8th standard, Secondary level from class 9th to class 12th, College level after 12th+ and fourth category will be for the general public.

The annual exams are going to be held in 12 regional languages along with English and Hindi, and will involve 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Explaining the significance of an exam like gau vigyan, Chairman Kathiria said in a press conference, "We are starting 'Kamdhenu Gau Vigyan Prachar Prasar Examination' at the national level from February 25, 2021. Cow is full of science that needs to be explored. It plays an important role in 5 trillion economies of the country."

The RKA further announced that the exams will be held in a transparent and impartial manner. Successful candidates in the exam will be awarded with prizes and certificates, the body also informed.

Furthermore, Kathiria said that the Ministry will come up with study material on cow science. Saying that the exam questions will be objective-type, the release by the Ministry of Fishery, Animal Husbandry and Dairying announced that the syllabus will be shared on the RKA website and the results will be declared immediately.

In addition the Chairman said that several colleges and educational institutions in India are keen on starting 'gau' academic and research centres.

Notably, the Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog was formed in February 2019 with the aim of ensuring cow welfare in the country. The government body comes under the Indian Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
