NEW DELHI: In the last 24 hours, India has reported 1,206 deaths with 42,766 new coronavirus cases across the country according to data released by the Union Health Ministry at 8 AM.

The data further added that with 45,254 patients recovering from the illness yesterday, the total number of recoveries in India has risen to over 2.99 crore (2,99,33,538). The national recovery rate stands at 97.20 per cent.

Active cases, meanwhile, have dropped to 4.55 lakh (4,55,033). The active cases comprise 1.48 per cent of the total infections, as per latest Health Ministry data.

It is to be mentioned here that presently, Kerala has reported the highest number of active cases in the country.

Its active case count has surpassed that of Maharashtra, which was previously reporting record numbers. Kerala and Maharashtra are also recording the highest number of daily Covid-related deaths, with the two states recording 130 and 747, respectively, since yesterday.

Meanwhile, the situation of COVID is still stands grim in Assam. Assam reported 24 more Covid19 deaths and 2,493 new positive cases in the last 24 hours.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Keshab Mahanta in a tweet on Friday evening said the new cases were confirmed out of 1,17,087 tests.

The overall positivity percentage of Assam stood at 2.13% on Friday, according to the data, shared by health minister Mahanta.

Of the new cases, the Kamrup Metro district recorded 247 cases.

The Biswanath District administration in Assam has issued a new covid-19 Standard Operation Procedure notice on Friday.

All shops and marketplace to shut down at by 12 pm in the district, announced the district administration of Biswanath. The night curfew will be strictly monitored by the Biswanath Police.

Those vegetable vendors who have the permission from the Farmer Department can sell vegetables till12 pm, stated the new SOP.

The vendors will be allowed to sell vegetable door to door till 12 pm of the day. The district administration further announced that all private workplaces will stay close till further notice.

Earlier, the govt declared Biswanath district as a containment zone and implemented complete lockdown in the state due to the increase in the number of Covid cases.
