Indian Army jawan martyred in Pak shelling in J&K's Nowshera sector

Guwahati: An Indian army jawan, Havildar Sambur Gurung, was killed in firing and mortar shelling by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowshera sector in Jammu and Kashmir's border district of Rajouri on Friday, June 10.

According to an army official, Pakistani troops breaching border ceasefire resorted to firing and mortar shelling on army positions and civilian areas. The Indian army guarding the LoC gave a befitting response to the Pakistani troops by firing in response, he added. Confirming the death of the jawan, he said that the casualties and damage caused by the retaliatory firing to Pakistan's side could not be ascertained.

Meanwhile, a woman who had been injured in the Pakistani troopers' mortar shelling in the Balakote sector of Poonch district on July 8 died on Thursday. "Hakam Bi who had received splinter injuries and was undergoing treatment in a hospital succumbed to injuries yesterday," said Rahul Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Poonch. Another elderly woman, Resham Bi, was killed in the incident.
