Mumbai Fire on 19th floor of Avingha Park in Lower Parel Kills One

Mumbai: On 22nd October 2021, a massive fire broke out in Mumbai's Avingha Park. A level-4 fire broke out on the 19th floor of a residential structure in Lower Parel, South Mumbai, killing one person. The event occurred in Avighna Park, an exclusive society in the city. The deceased man, Arun Tiwari, 30, was taken immediately to the KEM hospital but was declared as brought dead.

Mayor Kishori Pednekar, Municipal Commissioner I S Chahal, and fire and rescue authorities have also arrived on the scene. The 19th storey of the structure is engulfed in flames. The enormous fire emitted heavy plumes of black smoke that could be seen for kilometres in the air.

Speaking to the media, The Mayor claimed that the fire broke out due to a short circuit in the flat. He also added that the management needs to be punished for the non-operational fire fighting system in a new building. The residents from the Avingha fire building blamed the builder for not handing over the charge of illegal construction.

The itineraries of three Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) buses travelling via Babasaheb Ambedkar Marg to Bharat Mata Cinema, Ganesh Cinema, and Gulabrao Ganacharya Chowk have been diverted due to the fire.

Mumbai being the city of skyscrapers that co-exist with India's largest slums often overlooks the safety of the construction of buildings while in desperate need of extending a property. As a result, unauthorized settlements are therefore can be seen almost in every part of Mumbai city.

Earlier in 2021, when the world was battling COVID-19, another tragic fire broke out in Mumbai's Sunrise Hospital in Bhandup Area, killing 10 patients. Twenty fire engines were rushed to the spot and many patients were evacuated.
