Newly Constructed Road in UP Cracks After MLA Slams Coconut During Inauguration

Bijnor: In a weird event, a section of a brand new road in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district crumbled as a BJP MLA attempted a coconut cracking traditional rite on the road to commemorate its opening.

Bijnor MLA Suchi Chaudhury had visited to launch the seven-kilometre road near Kheda village on Thursday evening. According to reports, a total of Rs 1,16,00,000 was spent on the road's development.

She attempted to smash a coconut on the road at the inaugural event, but it did not crack and instead, the road's cracked into gravel.

BJP MLA Suchi Chaudhary, who was outraged by the event, blasted officials over the poor road construction. The recently constructed road began to disintegrate when the MLA's husband, Mausam Chaudhary, who was there on the scene, used a shovel on it. The Bijnor District Magistrate constituted an investigation group and ordered the restoration.

"I had it evaluated, and the structure was deemed to be inadequate. The quality of the job was poor. The inauguration was halted by us. I had a conversation with the District Magistrate. The DM put together a three-person team. "We were there for approximately three hours since the stuff was submitted for sampling," Ms Chaudhary added.

"Those who are culpable will be held accountable... they will suffer severe consequences." She went on to say, "The DM has promised me that the road would be built to specification."

The episode comes as a big humiliation for the Bharatiya Janata Party,  which is less than three months out from state elections in which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's main appeal has been for an efficient and corruption-free administration.
