Two Blasts Rock Jammu and Leave 7 Injured
The recovery of a suspected IED triggered panic in Jammu last Thursday.
JAMMU: Two blasts were reported from the city of Jammu on the first half of Saturday and several people were injured. No information has been given about any deaths due to the incident.
The Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh confirmed the occurrence of the incident. He mentioned, "Twin blasts took place in Narwal, wounding six persons."
According to reports one of the injured people belong to the police force, but the reasons or details regarding the incident were not revealed by the police.
The exact locations of the blasts have been mentioned to be the Yard Number 7 of the Transport Nagar region of Narwal locality. The police and emergency services rushed to the area immediately. The locality was cordoned off by the security forces and the injured people were evacuated to a medical facility for proper treatment.
Many vehicle repair shops are reportedly located in the area of the blast, meaning that the region usually has the presence of a good number of people.
Local police, the Special Operations Team of Jammu Police and members of the armed forces have been deployed at the location.
This incident takes place when Rahul Gandhi is present in the state as a part of his Bharat Jodo Yatra, a pre-election campaign of Congress involving travelling to all the states and union territories of India in order to rally support for the upcoming general elections in the country. The occurrence of the blast puts a question mark on the preparedness of the local police who are already on high alert for the visit of several political leaders in the state.
