Unnao Rape Survivor who was set ablaze dies after 40-Hour Struggle for Life

Unnao: Unnao gang-rape survivor, who was stabbed and set on fire, died after struggling for 40 hours at the Safdarjung Hospital of Delhi on Friday night.

The deceased was set ablaze by five men, including her two alleged rapists on Thursday morning while she was on her way back home from Rae Bareli court to attend a court hearing of her ongoing rape case.

After being stabbed and set on fire, the victim ran for 1 km seeking help with her 90% burnt body. Following which she was rescued by police and was rushed to the Community Health Centre, from where she was shifted to the district hospital in Lucknow. The Delhi Traffic Police provided a green corridor from the Delhi airport to Safdarjung Hospital as doctors declared it to be a ‘critical’ case. The victim was undergoing treatment in the plastic surgery burn unit of the said hospital where she took her last breath at 11:40 PM on Friday.

"The patient suffered a cardiac arrest at 11:10 pm. We tried to resuscitate her, but she could not survive and at 11:40 pm, she gave up," the Sardurjung Hospital spokesperson confirmed.

“When I hugged my sister, she just said one thing to me. Save me, I don’t want to die. But make sure they (the culprits) are not spared. I want to see them hanged to death.’ I promised my sister that no one will be spared,” said a brokenhearted brother of the victim while addressing media.

While referring to the Hyderabad 'encounter’ of the rape-murder accused of the 26-year-old veterinarian, the Unnao rape victim’s brother said, “What happened in Hyderabad was right. I hope my sister gets ‘quick justice’ too. I don’t want to see the attackers walking freely. The case should not go for two-three years.”
