West Bengal BJP MLA found hanging near residence, Mamata urged to initiate CBI enquiry

Guwahati: Debendra Nath Roy, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Hemtabad, was found hanging outside his home in North Dinajpur district in West Bengal. The BJP unit of West Bengal has suspected could play in the death case.

Crying "foul play" over his death, the BJP unit has claimed that Roy's neighbors believe that he was first killed and then strung up. "Body of Shri Debendra Nath Ray, BJP MLA from Hemtabad, a reserved seat, in Uttar Dinajpur, was found hanging like this in Bindal, near his village home. People are of the clear opinion that he was first killed & then hung. His crime? He joined the BJP in 2019. Om Shanti", read a tweet sent out from the official Twitter handle of the saffron party's West Bengal unit.

BJP leaders have now started pointing their fingers at the ruling Trinamool Congress for this ghastly act. BJP leader Rahul Sinha has claimed that Trinamool Congress was behind what he claims to be the 'murder' of the MLA and has demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter. Claiming that TMC goons made the incident seem like a suicide, he urged the party's supremo and WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to "find the truth behind the killing."

Meanwhile, the saffron party's president, JP Nadda, taking cognizance of the matter, said that the TMC Government will not be forgiven. "The suspected heinous killing of Debendra Nath Ray, BJP MLA from Hemtabad in West Bengal, is extremely shocking and deplorable. This speaks of the Gunda Raj & failure of law and order in the Mamta govt. People will not forgive such a govt in the future. We strongly condemn this," Nadda lashed out in a tweet.

Meanwhile, the deceased family members have also called for a CBI probe into the matter, and a family member told reporters that they think he was "murdered."
