11 SIMI activists given life terms by MP court for anti-tiol activities

Bhopal, Feb 27: A special court in Indore on Monday handed life sentences to 11 SIMI activists, including Safdar gori, for anti-tiol activities. The trial against gori and 10 other Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) members was conducted on charges of possession of firearms and explosives and also for indulging in ‘anti-tiol’ activities. Ten of the 11 convicts are lodged in the Sabarmati jail in Gujarat.

One of the convicts, Munroz, who was out on bail, was rearrested after his conviction and sent to jail, district Public Prosecutor Vimal Kumar Mishra said. On March 26, 2008, a joint team of Madhya Pradesh police and Special Investigation Team had raided a place in Dhar district’s Peethampur area but the accused maged to flee. They were later caught from Indore’s Shyam gar along with firearms and explosives on the intervening night of March 26 and 27, 2008. (IANS)
