118 treacle tins, two vehicles seized

GAURISAGAR, June 22: A team of Gaurisagar Police led by Sivasagar Additional Superintendent of Police Bolin Deori and Dadu Bora, Officer in-charge of Gaurisagar Police Station, on Wednesday night, seized 118 treacle tins being transported from Kheroni in Karbi Anglong by a 407 truck bearing registration AS-01-FC-4353. Based on information, police rushed to the spot while the tins were being unloaded by notorious treacle trader Mukut Saikia, a resident of Deoraja Pitika Pukhuri village under Gaurisagar Police Station. Seeing the police personnel, Mukut Saikia fled away but police seized 118 treacle tins and the 407 truck. Police also nabbed the driver of the truck, Rajib Bahadur Biswakarma, a resident of Hawaipur Thakur Bari under Kheoni Police Station in Karbi Anglong district and another person, Mintu Basumatary of Bheleuguri under Dabaka Police Station in Hojai district.

Moreover, Gaurisagar Police also seized one mini truck from the spot bearing registration no AS-04-AC-6950 for transporting the treacle tins from the 407 truck and nabbed the driver, Ananda Konwer of Morapukhuri Konwer village under Amguri Police Station. Police interrogation is on. A month ago police seized 384 treacle tins from the possession of Mukut Saikia but he still continued his trade.
