144 Cr.P.C. promulgated in Cachar

SILCHAR, March 11: In order to maintain law and order and for holding assembly elections on April 4 to the 7 constituencies of Cachar, the District Magistrate, S Viswathan, IAS, has promulgated 144 Cr.P.C. with immediate effect. This will cover all the constituencies of Silchar, Soi, Dholai, Udharbond, Lakhipur, Borkhola and Katigorah. It is apprehended miscreants may indulge in illegal activities like extortion of money, kidpping of persons for which they may use vehicles with windows that might be covered by various means in order to escape detection or identification while in process of commission of such illegal activities. Unless, the movements of such miscreants are curbed down, there is every likelihood of danger to human life and safety as well as breach of public tranquillity.

There is sufficient ground to proceed under section 144 Cr.P.C. for immediate prevention of such illegal activities. Besides, the order says no owners or drivers of private vehicles shall use any means whether by putting tinted glasses, tinted transparent sheets, painting, curtains etc. on the rear or two sides of the windows of vehicles by which the views inside are blocked, completely or partially from outside. Any such means, the order further says, if put already, shall be removed from such vehicles immediately. This order shall come into force immediately and shall apply to the whole of the district of Cachar and shall remain in force until altered or decided.
