150th anniversary celebration of gaon Govt HS School concludes

GAON, November 18: The closing ceremony of the 150th anniversary celebration of gaon Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School was held on Tuesday. The programme started with flag hoisting by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Rockybul Hussain. It was followed by floral tribute to the martyrs’ column which was started by former Principal of the school, Bimal Chandra Bora.

In the open session, Minister Rockybul Hussain, litterateur Dr. Sunil Kumar Saikia, educationist Lakhyahira Das, scholar Dr Khargeswar Bhuyan and actor Gu Mahanta graced the occasion. Addressing the audience, Dr. Lakhyahira Das said that of late the Assamese society was lacking mutual faith, brotherhood, unity and integrity.

Dr Das also expressed concern over religious intolerance and appealed for harmony among people. The meeting was presided over by Minister Rockybul Hussain. A cultural programme was also organized. The programme concluded with lighting of 151 earthen lamps which was started by the Principal of the school, Dipika Laskar.
