16 Assam Rifles Col Robin Kumar Bats For Local Organic Products

Itanagar: Commanding Officer of Khonsa-based 16 Assam Rifles Col Robin Kumar on Tuesday called upon the self-help groups (SHGs) of Tirap district to give more stress on organic products for sustainable income generation.

Inaugurating the Indigenous Food Festival on the eve of Statehood Day at Nehru Stadium at Khonsa, the district headquarters, he urged the SHGs to emphasise on selling of local organic products on daily basis, saying that local products like vegetables, tapioca, tea leaf, maize, banana, king chilly, large ginger and cardamom would immensely help the local traders as a sustainable income source, an official release informed.

Kumar added that the soil in most parts of the district is seen quite fertile for growing of vegetables and other agriculture and horticulture based crops.

He appreciated the district administration for inviting him to grace the occasion, the release said.

Tirap DC PN Thungon who was also present on the occasion, appreciated the CO for sparing his precious time to grace the occasion. The DC also appreciated all SHGs coming from various places for setting up their food stalls enthusiastically in a short notice.

The inaugural programme was also attended by former ZPC Sontung Bangsia, president of Tirap Chief Council (TCC) Khamwang Lowang among others.

Altogether eight food stalls were set up.
