17 couples to get married in mass marriage ceremony

DHUBRI, June 9: Like previous years, this year too Dhubri Kalibari Trustee Board, one of the oldest institutions of Dhubri town, will organize mass marriage in its premises next month on July 6.

In order to solemnize the mass marriage, collection of donation, arrangement and preparation have already got under way.

Board sources said that marriage of 17 couples will be solemnized on that day and all the official formalities to get their marriage registered had been done.

"All the documents required for marriage registration of 17 couples have been submitted to the Dhubri Registry Office before June 6 as marriage has to be notified 30 days prior to marriage," convener of the mass marriage ceremony under the Dhubri Kalibari Trustee Board, Dipankar Mazumdar said.

Mazumdar also said that couple of various communities, including Khasi, Nepali, Adivasi and Bodo from Siliguri (NorthBengal), Gauripur, Bogribari, Balajan, Golokganj, Gossaigaon, Dhubri and Dharmasala (Assam) would be getting married in the mass marriage ceremony.

All the materials required to start life after marriage, including bedstead, cushion, blanket, pillow, mosquito-net, steel almirah, utensils, pressure cooker, ornaments, garments and others would be given as gift to the couples, Mazumdar added.

Board sources said that generous people of Dhubri had already started to contribute for the mass marriage in cash and kind.
