19 Drunken Driving Cases In Dispur, 104 Road Accidents In State

GUWAHATI: It is indeed a sad plight that so many youths of the current generation fail to understand that life is precious and recklessly endangering it in the name of fun is rather irresponsible. It has become a common trend that every time a celebration crops up, so does the familial bottle of alcohol. For most, every festival is an occasion to indulge in intoxication. Trouble brews when drunks put their lives along with others in danger by choosing to drive in that condition.

In Dispur on Thursday, 28 cases of drunken recklessness were registered along with 18 licenses seized. On Friday, till the point of reporting this news, 19 cases were registered and 12 licenses seized. A police official of Dispur police station commented that the checking was done to avoid road accidents and to create awareness. “The people are very irresponsible these days and do not realize that by drinking and driving, they are not just endangering their own lives but others as well. However, we have fewer cases this time than last year.” Checking was also performed in Zoo Road, Fancy Bazaar, Khanapara, and other areas of the city.

As per reports of road accidents around the state, 17 were reported in Kamrup, 14 in Kamrup (M), 12 in Jorhat, 9 in Nagaon, 5 in Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur and Tinsukia each, 4 in Dhemaji, Goalpara and Udalguri each, 3 in Darrang, 2 in Barpeta, Chirang, Hailakandi, Kokrajhar, Nalbari and Sivsagar each, and 1 in Baksa, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur and Morigaon each. A total of 104 road accidents occurred in total around the state, and were provided service by Mrityunjoy 108 service.
