TANGLA, July 15: The 205th edition of Bhanu Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Nepali Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya was celebrated at Bandarguri LP School in Udalguri on Saturday with a day-long agenda. The programme was jointly organized by the Bandarguri regional committees of Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha, Asom Gorkha Sammelan and All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU).The programme was initiated with floral tributes to the poet followed by Ramayana path by priest Raghunath Upadhyaya and a poets’ open discourse. Bhagirath Upadhyaya, a senior retired teacher of the region chaired the open session where Ram Upadhyaya, general secretary of the Udalguri district committee of ANSS, highlighted the significance of the celebration of this auspicious day. A total of 10 meritorious HS and HSLC candidates were also felicitated on the occasion.

BOKO: Kamrup district Gorkha Kalyan Committee celebrated poet Bhanubhakta Acharya 205th birth anniversary at Hahim in Kamrup district along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Friday. On this occasion, a day-long programme was organized by the committee. During the programme, many traditional competitions were held and traditional Nepali, Garo and Rabha dances were also performed. An open session also held during the programme. Prem Tamang, president of All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Ramen Singh Rabha, president of All Rabha Students’ Union, Arjun Chetry, GM of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, Sonaram Rabha, Executive Member of RHAC and many dignitaries took part in the open session.

The meeting was presided over by Gopal Sarma, president of Kamrup district Gorkha Kalyan Committee. In the open session, Prem Tamang, president of AAGSU, said that Bhanubhakta Acharya was a great poet. He had translated the Ramayana to Nepali.
