215 cattle heads seized by BSF

Shillong, July 7: The three-four months of lull on matters related to cattle smuggling from Meghalya seems to have been broken after 215 cattle heads were again seized from the vulnerable Umsyiem-Lyngkhat–Ryngku belt in East Khasi Hills and Muktapur-Lamsaki in West Jainti Hills along the Indo Bangladesh border in the last one week.

The latest seizure was on the intervening night of July 6-7 when BSF troops deployed at International border at Nayabazar, East Khasi Hills, seized 36 numbers of cattle..

Informing this, the PRO of the BSF (Meghalya Frontier) UK Nayal said, “Though desperation on the part of cattle smugglers is seen as they are making very daring bids to cross over the cattle to Bangladesh but somehow they have not been successful.” The BSF has seized 215 number of cattle, and contraband items worth over Rs 54.4 lakh while being smuggled to Bangladesh on the International Border along Meghalaya over the last seven days, Nayal further divulged.
