22nd Junior National Sepak Takraw Championship will begin from Friday

GUWAHATI: The 22nd Junior National Sepak Takraw Championship will begin in Guwahati from Friday. Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium will be the venue of the competition.

Addressing a media gathering the Vice President of the organizing committee Rajib Prakash Baruah today said, “Around 500 players and officials from 25 states will take part in the 5-day competition. Already two of them-Goa and Chandigarh- arrived in the city for participating in the championship.

The secretary of the Assam Sepak Takraw Association Bishnuram Nunisa informed that there would be three events in the competition which are: Team, Regu, and Doubles. The total budget of the competition is around Rs 60 lakh.”

Regarding the preparation of Assam team, Nunisa said, “We have already arranged two preparatory camps at Dibrugarh and Silchar respectively. The final phase is going on in Guwahati.”

It may be mentioned here that last time Assam won a gold medal in the doubles event in the girl's section.

The media briefing was also attended by two Vice Presidents of the organizing committee Kalyan Kumar Das and Subhash Basumatari respectively along with the Chairman of the media committee Balendra Mohan Chakraborty and noted sports organizer Rupen Bora.
