TINSUKIA, April 23: The 29th National Road Safety Week-2018 on the theme ‘Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha’ got underway at Tinsukia with flagging off a car rally on Monday.  The week-long observance envisaged awareness camp, health check-up and workshop, said Arun Borah, DTO Tinsukia. Sumit Sattawan, SDO (S) Magherita, jointly with Gurnel Singh, ADC, Tinsukia flagged off the car rally in presence of high civil and police officials. According to Arun Borah, an awareness camp for students will be held on April 24 and April 25, while road safety workshop for teachers will be held on April 26 and a two-day health check-up camp for commercial drivers will be held on April 27 and April 28. The programme will culminate with enforcement drive with distribution of leaflets on April 29 and April 30.     
Hailakandi: The 29th Road Safety Week is being observed across Hailakandi district in a befitting manner. During the week-long programme beginning from today till April 30, people from all walks of life will be made aware about traffic rules and road safety regulations. Giving the information on Monday, District Transport  Officer, Nripen Kalita said that various programmes have been lined up to create awareness during the week.
This campaign is in effect to realize the same concept of road safety, Kalita said, adding that a procession involving students, transport operators, general public and traffic police would be brought out from Rabindra Bhawan in Hailakandi town on April 28. Colourful banners would be displayed and road safety awareness pamphlets would be distributed. Deputy Commissioner of Hailkandi, Adil Khan has also enforced the rule, ‘No helmet, no petrol’ a few days ago as a measure to check growing incidents of road accidents involving two wheelers in the district. Strict directive has been issued to the petrol pump owners not to supply fuel to two-wheeler riders without helmets. The unique move has been welcomed by all sections people of Hailakandi district. 
BONGAIGAON: Bongaigaon District Transport Office, in association with the district administration and police administration, is observing Road Safety Week from April 23 to April 30. Talking to media persons, Binurani Rajbanshi, DIPRO, Bongaigaon said that on the first day on Monday, a bike and car rally was taken out from Gandhi Field of Bongaigaon. “The rally was flagged off by Babulal Sarma, Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner, where several noted persons, including Pranjit Bora, Additional SP, Vaskarjyoti Dutta, DTO and many others were present. The DC in his speech appealed to all to follow traffic rules so that accidents can be averted,” she said.
HAFLONG: To create awareness among the people, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is observing the 29th Road Safety Week from April 23 to April 30 in Dima Hasao. In this connection, an awareness campaign was held at Ch. 149.000 of NH-54E Songbung village where Nishanta Das of NHAI, Amit Singh, Resident Engineer, ICT Pvt. Ltd. and Basudev Panthi, Project Manager, NKC-JKM (JV) of Package AS 22 and contractor’s crew were present. In this campaign, awareness was generated among the drivers and proper measures of road safety were explained. The documents of the vehicles and drivers were also checked and verified.
