2nd phase of Lok Sabha polls to be conducted at 97 constituencies on April 18

Guwahati: The campaign for the second phase of election will come to an end today at 5 pm as the Lok Sabha polls for 2nd phase will be held on April 18 at 97 constituencies in 13 states across the country.

The 13 states and union territories in which the second phase of Lok Sabha polls will be held are Assam (5 seats), Bihar (5 seats), Chhattisgarh (3seats), Jammu and Kashmir (2 seats), Karnataka (14 seats), Maharashtra (10 seats), Manipur (1 seat), Odisha (5 seats), Puducherry (1 seat), Tamil Nadu (39 seats), Tripura (1 seat), Uttar Pradesh (8 seats) and West Bengal (3 seats).

In Assam, there are 50 candidates in fray to contest from the five constituencies namely Karimganj, Silchar, Autonomous District (ST), Mangaldoi and Nowgong. A total of 6910592 electors are eligible to vote in the five constituencies out of which 3554460 are male and 3355952 are female and 180 are transgender voters.

The candidates fielded for Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency are Prabhash Chandra Sarkar (SUCI)(C), Parikshit Roy (Independent), Nikhil Ranjan Das (Hindustan Nirman Dal), Ajoy Kumar Sarkar (All India Forward Bloc), Raju Das (Independent), Hari Lal Rabi Das (Independent), Anupam Singha (Independent), Kripanath Mallah (BJP), Ram Narayan Suklabaidya (Independent), Rabindra Chandra Das (Independent), Satyajit Das (Independent), Radheshyam Biswas (AIUDF), Chandan Das (AITMC) and Swarup Das (INC).

The number of electors in Karimganj eligible to vote are 1338005 out of which 696638 are male while the number of female voters are 641349 and the number of transgender voters are 18.

In Silchar, the candidates to contest in the Lok Sabha polls are Nazia Yasmin (National Peoples' Party), Badrul Islam Barbhuiya (All India Forward Bloc), Shuvadip Datta (Independent), Hitabrata Roy (AITC), Ashitava Datta (Independent), Puran Lal Goala (Independent), Nazmul Haque Laskar (Independent), Ashutosh Bhattacharjee (Independent), Mahendra Chandra Das (Independent), Sabindra Das (Independent), Rajdeep Roy (BJP), Sushmita Dev (INC) and Shyam Deo Kurmi (SUCI)(C).

Silchar has a total of 1191289 electors out of which 613931 are male voters while 577283 are female voters and the number of transgender voters in the constituency are 75.

The Autonomous District (ST) has five candidates in fray- Holiram Terang (ASDC), Lien Khochon (NPP), Jones Engti Kathar (APHLC), Biren Singh Ingti (INC) and Horen Singh Bey (BJP).

The total number of electors in the constituency are 795085 out of which 404528 are male while that of female voters are 390551 and the number of third gender voters are 6.

Mangaldoi has 11 candidates in fray- Jayanta Kumar Kalita (Independent), Maniram Basumatary (Hindustan Nirmal Dal), Gandheswar Mushahary (Voters' Party International), Ainul Haque (Asom Jana Morcha), Swarnalata Chaliha (SUCI)(C), Kazi Nekib Ahmed (Independent), Sudhendu Mohan Talukdar (AITC), Dilip Saikia (BJP), Bhubaneshwar Kalita (INC), Prodeep Kumar Daimary (United People's Party Liberal) and Biren Basak (Bharatiya Gana Parishad).

The number of electors in Mangaldoi constituency eligible to vote are 1795529 out of which 920977 are male and 874520 are female voters and 32 are third gender voters.

The last constituency Nowgong has seven candidates in fray- Rupak Sarma (BJP), Pradyut Bordoloi (INC), Zakir Hussain (Independent), Ajgar Ali (Purbanchal Janata Party Secular), Sukanta Mazumdar (Bharatiya Gana Parishad), Sohadeb Das (TMC) and Saiful Islam Choudhary (Asom Jana Morcha).

The number of voters in Nowgong are 1790684 out of which 918386 are male voters while 872249 are female voters and 49 are transgender voters.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India bars Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati to campaign for 48 hours and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for 72 hours for violating Model Code of Conduct.
