LAKHIMPUR: A total of 300 solar lamps were distributed on Monday to students of Matmora Higher Secondary School in Dhakuakhona subdivision of Lakhimpur district. The programme was organized under the aegis of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, and Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) in collaboration with the Harhi Pragati Gramya Sangathan. The distribution of the solar lamps was formally inaugurated by Rajendra Prashad Gogoi, the Principal of the school, in the presence of Dipankar Pegu, the Block Co-ordinator of ASRLM in Dhakuakhona Block, and the members of 17 SHGs under Harhi Pragati Gramya Sangathan.

“The solar lamps are essential for the students of Matmora as all the villages have not been electrified till now. Harhi Pragati Gramya Sangathan has done admirable work in distributing the solar lamps to the students of the area at a minimum price,” said the Principal. The solar lamps were made by the members of the local SHGs under the aegis of Harhi Pragati Gramya Sangathan and under the direct supervision of IIT Mumbai and in association with ASRLM.
