4 Arrested for Burglary at Maligaon, Guwahati

Guwahati: In an incident of dacoity at the residence of Suresh Poddar at Green Park Colony at Maligaon in Guwahati on June 30, ornaments worth about Rs 20 lakh were stolen.

Recently, after about one month of investigation the police managed to nab four persons connected with the crime and could recover ornaments worth about Rs 7 lakh from their possession.

Initially the police arrested Ram Padharak Mandal who has been working as a cook at the residence of Poddar for avbout 20 years. The others who have been nabbed are Dil Shah, Hazarat Ali and Dilip Ghosh

As per Police source, Mandal had close link with Dil Shah who in turn had contact with Hazarat Ali.

On the day of incident, the Poddar family was not at home. The four accused had met for meal at Poddar’s residence. But that night itself, the burglary took place and in the morning Dil Shah and Hazarat Ali left and reached Mandia in Barpeta district. At Mandia they got the ornaments sold for rupees three lakh through Dilip Ghosh who works in a jewellery.

On the basis of Mandal’s confession the police first arrested Dil Shah from Fancy Bazar, Hazarat Ali from Dhubri and Dilip Ghosh from Mandia.

As per police version, there are two other persons involved in the case and as of now they are absconding. The police also informed that ornaments worth around Rs 12 was stolen.

Presently Dil Shah and Hazarat Ali are in police custody for 5 days. The case has been registered in Jalukbari PS (case no 842/18 us 457,/380 IPC). However, the recovery of the stolen items was made by Bharulumukh PS.
