4-day Karbi Anglong shutdown from today

HAMREN, Jan 25: Various organizations, including ultra outfits, have called for four days Karbi Anglong shutdown (bandh) during and after the 68th Republic Day celebration.

On Tuesday, normal life in both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong was badly affected due to 12-hour shutdown called by seven organizations who are demanding separate voters list for conducting election for Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council area.

Karbi radical organization United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) has called upon the people of Karbi Anglong to boycott the Republic Day celebration.

On the other hand, IK Songbijit-led People’s Democratic Council of Karbi-Longri (PDCK), three other armed organizations, the tiol Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit), tiol Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) called for a 24-hour Karbi Anglong shutdown on January 26 from 12.01 AM to 11.59 PM to boycott the 68th Republic Day.

To add more agony to the common people’s life, social organization Karbi Anglong North Cachar Hills Autonomous State Demand Committee (KANCHASDCOM) and its allied organizations KSA-Inglongpho, Karbi Riso Adorbar, Karbi So-Arlo Amei and Karbi Unemployed Youth Association have called for a 24-hour shutdown in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao autonomous district from 5 am of January 27 to 5.00 am of January 28 to pressurize the Centre for passage of the Autonomous State Bill in the coming budget session of Parliament which will begin from January 31.
