4-day mass thread ceremony from March 1

Silchar, Feb 23: A 4-day mass thread ceremony will be solemnized under the aegis of Adith Samaj Suraksha Sangstha, Rangirkhari, at Kakpur Mahaprabhu Sarani, of this town from March 1. Rs.3000 has been fixed as fees for each individual who will wear the sacred thread. They have also been asked to bring their own items of daily use like toothpaste, gamocha, light winter clothes and beddings with them. They have been requested to buy five fruits and other essential materials for the sacred Yagya, including camphor, ghee and Dakshi for the priest, according to their fincial capacity. This has been informed at a press-meet held at Rangirkhari of this town on Wednesday. Among others present at the press-meet included, Gopesh Deb th, Sanjit Deb th, advisor, Gitesh th, president, Dr Malay Kanti th, vice president, Subudh Bhomik, secretary and Hiral th, treasurer of Adith Samaj Suraksha Sangstha.

The sacred thread ceremony will be graced by the auspicious presence of different priests hailing from Barak Valley, Brahmaputra Valley and other states. On the last day of the ceremony on March 4, the Brahmins will march across the town which will be followed by a Mahayajya to be performed by the priests. The fate of Rudrojo Brahmins, Yogi Brahmins and th Brahmins lurks in the dark since they have been subjected to negligence and apathetic behaviour by the upper sect of Brahmins. This has placed them on the periphery of obscurity and anonymity. The age old rrative of the th Brahmins proves otherwise. History says that, once upon a time, Rudrojo Brahmins and Yogi Brahmins used to enjoy an exalted status in the society.
