47 villages affected by flood in Goalpara district

Goalpara, July 11: Along with rest of the State, the flood situation in Goalpara also remained grim on Tuesday as the River Brahmaputra was flowing 0.22 centimetre above the danger level.

The areas under Lakhipur circle Killahara 1st part, 2nd part and 4th part, Bamuner Alga, Bokpara, Diner Alga, Sengaralga, Gumnimari, Chaildhara and Patakata are already under water. A total of 47 revenue villages have been facing this grim situation in the district.

Meanwhile, a large area of 850 hectares of agricultural land has been affected. More than 10,000 people under Lakhipur revenue circle and 250 people under Balija revenue circle have suffered in this deluge. According to the information, about 1,332 people are  taking shelter in relief camps set up by the district administration. The administration has supplied relief materials like rice, pulse, mustard oil, salt and candle to the camps. However, the camp inmates are facing urgent need of doctors and medicines. On Tuesday, the State Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma visited the affected areas and camps. Deputy Commissioner Ghashyam Dass and Circle Officer Banti Talukdar accompanied her.  Earlier, the minister also reviewed the flood situation in the district with the administration.
