5-year-old land acquisition case gains momentum

Itagar, September 16: The 5-year-old pending case of the land acquisition for the Indian army at Gumto gained momentum on Tuesday in a meeting of the Papum Pare district administration. Under the chairmanship of DC Tai Kaye the meeting was called to filize the rate of land and other issues related to the public for setting up of a forward ammunition depot at Gumto. DLRSO, Papum Pare, Techi Hitlar presented the views and suggestions of the public regarding their demands and compensation rates. A joint meeting at Circle Office Complex, Gumto will be held on September 30 to filize the issues concerning all parties. The meeting will be attended by army authority, officials of Defense Estate Office, Jorhat and general public of the area. In Tuesday’s meeting high ranking army officials along with officials of Papum Pare district were present. The army officials expressed their desire to acquire land at the earliest for the establishment of a depot. The process for acquiring the 661.90 acre to set up forward ammunition depot at Gumto started in the year 2010. However, due to various issues till date the process could not be completed. The defense officials present in the meeting included Major Vijay Fedricks, 163 Medium Regiment, Col. Vikas Pandey, 163 Medium Regiment, Maj. Ajit Bhardwag, 163 Medium Regiment and. P. Sonowal, SDO, DEO Office, Jorhat, a press release informed.
