500 kg of canbis seized

Silchar, Oct 3: On the basis of information from secret and reliable sources, a team of police personnel led by Soi PS office in-charge Sahabuddin Barbhuiyan, seized 5 quintal (500 kgs) of canbis (ganja) worth around Rs. 30 lakh in 46 packets from a Bolero vehicle bearing No AS 01 BN 2633 near Kazidohor Part – I of this town last Sunday. They had the information that huge quantity of ganja might be carried in one vehicle or the other. Accordingly, police installed a check post at Soi road at around 11.30 pm on Sunday and started checking each and every passing vehicle.

 The Bolero, despite receiving sigls to halt, sped away. It raised an alarm among the police personnel. They chased the vehicle for 10 kms until its driver and his accomplices fled from the scene and left the vehicle along with 500 kgs of ganja. He took advantage of the pitch darkness and made good his escape. Some other important documents have been found in the vehicle. A case has been registered against the owner of the vehicle. Last evening DSP AJ Barua went to Soi PS. He assured that the smugglers would soon be bbed.
