LAND PATTA/ALLOTMENT ORDER

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The State Government has issued fresh directives to ensure that the indigenous landless people get land pattas or land allotment orders and also to galvanize the Deputy Commissioners in this regard.

The Revenue and Disaster Management Department has directed the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to initiate steps for verifying the huge number of pending applications and allot on the average 5,000 such documents to eligible applicants in each district. This process has to be completed within the month of February this year. There are 33 districts of Assam.

The recommendation of the Sub-Divisional-level Land Advisory Committee (LAC) is mandatory for issuing such orders. The new directive further directed that the LACs must hold their meetings to scan such papers of the applicants at least once every month. Earlier, the LAC meetings used to be conducted irregularly.

It may be mentioned that the previous governments lacked the initiative in this context. As a result, thousands of applications are pending at the district and the sub-divisional levels across the State. However, last year the present State government provided the thrust and awarded land pattas or land allotment orders to 12,000 indigenous people.
