56.76 % pass SSLC, 74.78 % pass HSSLC-Arts

Shillong, May 25: The results of Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and Class XII (Arts) examinations conducted by Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education were announced on Friday. While 56.76 per cent students came out successful in SSLC against 54.04 percent last year, 74.78 percent came out successfully in Class XII (Arts).

The SSLC examination saw an increase of 2.72 percent when compared with last year’s 54.04 percent.

However, the results of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC- Arts) saw a slight drop when compared to 2017, where an overall pass percentage of 75.38 percent was recorded.

A total of 28,424 of 50,077 students from 593 schools cleared the SSLC exams held in 137 centres, while 17,318 of 23160 students from 226 schools who gave the HSSLC exams held in 100 centres were declared successful by the Board. Girls in both the examinations have performed better than boys.

In the SSLC examination, Sherwood School of Tura grabbed the first four positions with six students making it into the top 20.

Anurag Tewari scored 581 marks to secure the first rank in the State, Trisha Seal Sharma (573) got the second position, Yash Khandelwal (569) got the third position while, Pratyush Patra (568) secured the fourth position, the other two students of the school who were in the top 20 are Siddhi Agarwal who was joint seventh with 565 marks and Gun Cassel R Mara was joint 18th with 552 marks.

East Khasi Hills District scored the highest pass percentage with 79.04 percent, while South West Garo Hills registered the lowest with 26.65 percent in the SSLC examination. In the HSSLC examination, Ri Bhoi District recorded the highest pass percentage while South Garo Hills with only 48.21 percent.

Ibarisha Thangkhiew of Christian Academy with (567) got the fifth position, while two other students of Tura schools, Shatabhisha Paul of St Xavier School and Arime S Momin of Aeroville Secondary School secured (566) marks. Aniket Modak of Mahendraganj Higher Secondary School in South West Garo Hills secured 565 marks to hold joint seventh position with Wankerlang Sohtun of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong.

Meanwhile, in the Class XII (Arts), the first position was secured by Lily Kharthangmaw (440) of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Susanna Kharmawshun of St Margaret’s Higher Secondary School got the second position with 439 marks, the third position was secured by Brinda Gewali of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School with 436 marks and the fourth position was secured jointly by Ardabiangki Rymbai of Ram Krishna Mission Higher Secondary School, Cherrapunjee and Benefertle Wanniang of St Mary’s Higher Secondary School with 419 marks.
