567 birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev observed

Jorhat, September 25: The 567 birth anniversary of great Vaisvite  saint Srimanta  Sankardev was observed at several places in Jorhat district with day-long programme beginning from September 22. People from all walks of life belonging to the Vasvite community celebrated the occasion with great traditiol devotion and fervor.

In Charigaon, the birth anniversary of the saint was observed with two-day programme . Mythological drama (bhao) “Rukmini Haran” was staged on the occasion.  A colorful traditiol procession was also taken out.

The  Moimazi  Prathamik of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha celebrated the  birth anniversary of the saint with various programmes including cultural procession and  felicitation of brilliant students. Educationist Golap Bora and Prabin Bora delivered speech on Sankardev at Gyan Jyoti Kalakristi Kendra  on September 23 on the occasion.  In Chengeligaon also, the birth anniversary of the great son of the soil was celebrated with two-day  programme.

In Chaudanghaon, traditiol procession was taken out besides performing mythological drama ‘Ekalabya Guru Dakhi’ on  September  22 at Chaudang Gaon mghar on the occasion of the birth anniversary celebration.

The 567 birth anniversary of the great saint was also celebrated at Gyangaon mghar , at Saikia Choock and at Dakhinduliya village in Teok area with colorful programmes.
