From a Correspondent

Bokajan, November 15: At a time when the APCC is battling a series of problems with many leaders contemplating to leave the party, around 600 supporters of BJP and HSDP joined the Congress party at a function organized by Bokajan Block Congress Committee (BBCC) here on Saturday.

The president of BBCC, Pabitra Chetia presided over the meeting and welcomed the new members. He urged them to work for the interest of the party. He also said that the move would further strengthen the democratic base of the party in the region ahead of the State assembly elections.

Many BJP and HSDP functiories under the leadership of prominent local BJP leaders J C Rengma, Robinson Engleng, Soneshwar Bora, Bhuban Saikia, Deyklung Terang and Sonu Tati joined the Congress party.

MP Diphu Lok Sabha constituency Biren Sing Ingti and MLA 17 Bokajan LA constituency, Klengdun Ingti were present to grace the occasion. However, none of the two local EMs of KAAC (Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council) were seen present in the meeting. Speaking to The Sentinel, EM (Fisheries & Flood Control) Jiban Ch. Pathak expressed resentment for the party high command saying that differences among the party members came to the fore after the appointment of Pabitra Chetia as the president of BBCC as he had earlier faced action for anti-party activities.
