Guwahati: The polling percentage in Assam till 3 PM was 62.13 % in the four constituencies Dhubri, Kokrajhar (ST), Barpeta and Gauhati.

In Dhubri, the polling percentage till 3 PM was 67.12%, Kokrajhar (ST) 63.36%, Barpeta 60.38% and Gauhati recorded 58.23% polling.

The Presiding Officer of Gauripur Bani Vidyamandir polling station in Dhubri was arrested as it was alleged that he has allowed a voter to cast vote without having any identity proof. The administration has appointed another officer in his place to carry out the voting process in the centre.

On the other hand, former Director General of Police of Assam, Hare Krishna Deka has also alleged that there was a malfunction in the EVM at Lachit Nagar Kali Mandir polling centre. Deka alleged that when he pressed a button of his selected candidate, the vote has been transferred to another candidate which has been displayed in the VVPAT.

After ex-DGP Deka has expressed his anger for sheer malfunction of the EVM, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Ripun Bora has also expressed concern over the issue.

Deka later informed the issue to the election officer and asked them to withdraw his vote but the election officer informed him that the vote cannot be withdrawn. Deka then questioned the election officer as what should be done with the vote to which the EO replied that he can challenge the vote and also informed him that if his allegations will prove false then he will be punished.

The polling has been conducted at 9577 polling stations and 7477062 electors are eligible to cast their votes.
