6,500 contractual teachers will be regularized in February: Borkotoky

SIVASAGAR, January 22: Assam Education Minister Sarat Borkotoky on Friday distributed the ‘Anundoram Borooah Laptop Award’ and ‘Chief Minister’s Special Award Scheme’ among the students who secured first division and second division in High school and Higher secondary.

Distributing the awards to the students here at Darbar Field playground, the Education minister said, “Earlier there were anomalies and corruption in the education sector. Now there has been development since I have taken the grip in the education department.”

“Though other states like Bihar followed us, they failed to continue the process. But we have been able to keep it alive for the last 11 years,” Borkotoky said. The minister further said, “In order to spread and develop modern education in the state, we have planned to set up three engineering colleges at gaon, Udalguri and lbari.”

He also announced to regularize the posts of 6,500 contractual teachers in the month of February this year.

Parliamentary Secretary (Fince) Sarat Saikia, zira MLA Debabrat Saikia, Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Elementary Education and Secondary Education Departments Ramesh Ch. Jain, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal, District Development Commissioner Abhijit Baruah, AMTRON Maging Director Dinesh Shankar Pegu were also present at the function.
