65th Bordoloi Trophy to Kick off on Oct 27

Preliminary matches to be held at Dibrugarh and Mukalmua

GUWAHATI: The 65th Bordoloi Trophy will kick off on October 27. This time the tournament will be held in three separate venues.

Announcing the news in a media briefing the president of the Gauhati Sports Association Munin Nobis said, “We have decided to organize the competition in different parts of the state this year. Hope it will help us to bring back the lost glory of the competition.”

Supporting the decision the president of the organizing Committee Lakhya Konwartoday said,” Group stages of the tournament would be held in Dibrugarh and Mukalmua from October 27 to November 3. The remaining part of the competition, which included two semi-finals and one final, would be held in Guwahati.” GSA general secretary Dhruba Jyoti Kalita was also present in the press meet.

Konwar also announced the name of the 8 teams which will take part in the championship. The participating teams are BSF, Jalandhar, OILFC, ASEBSC, Mohammedan Sporting, Baarhoonkha AC (Kokrajhar), TRAU (Imphal), Assam Police Blues and one team from Shillong which name would be finalized within the next couple of days.

The formal inaugural function of the competition would be held in Dibrugarh on October 27 and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will attend the function as a chief guest.

This time champion team will receive cash award of Rs 3 lakh while the cash award for runners up team is Rs 2 lakh.

Schedule: Group ‘A’ (Dibrugarh)-Oct 27: BSF, Jalandhar vs OILFC, Oct 28: Shillong FC vs ASEBSC, Oct 30: OILFC vs Shillong, Oct 31: BSF vs ASEBSC, Nov 2: ASEBSC vs OILFC, Nov 3: BSF vs Shillong.

Group ‘B’ (Mukalmua): Oct 27: Barhoonkha FC AC vs Trau AC, Imphal, Oct 28: Mohammedan Sporting vs Assam Police Blues, Oct 30: Assam Police Blues vs TRAU, Oct 31: Mohammedan Sporting vs Baarhoonka AC, Nov 2: Mohammedan Sporting vs TRAU, Nov 3: Assam Police Blues vs Baarhoonkha AC.

Nov 6 : 1st Semi final (Guwahati), Nov 7: 2nd Semi final (Guwahati), Nov 9: Final (Guwahati).
