65th Foundation Day of Bharat Scouts & Guides celebrated

SHILLONG, Nov 7: The Governor of Meghalaya, Mr Shanmugathan, presented the Rajya Puraskar (Governor’s Award) to 36 Guides and 26 Scouts at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan here on Saturday on the occasion of the 65th Foundation Day of Bharat Scouts & Guides. Ten Adult awardees which included teachers and volunteers were also felicitated for their achievements at the state, tiol and intertiol levels respectively.

The programme was preceded by the iuguration of the Bharat Scouts & Guides Flag by the Governor.

While addressing the gathering, the Governor congratulated all the awardees, particularly the 62 Rajya Puraskar winners and urged upon them to aim higher and strive towards achieving the tiol Award (Rashtrapati Puraskar).He also appealed to the Scouts and Guides fraternity to adopt certain  minimum ideals and to follow them with zeal and dedication. “do not build castles in the air. Instead, hone and put into practice the great ideas that come to mind”, he encouraged. He also emphasized upon the need to be fearless, bold and courageous as they fight the battles of life and reminded the gathering of the importance of having a social service attitude; an attitude that would help change lives and the country as a whole.

Chief Secretary, Shri. P.B.O. Warjri who is also the President of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides called upon the young ones to stick to their principles, to not relent and to have the courage to do what is just and right. The Scouts and Guides chapter of their lives would propel them towards becoming valuable members of the society as they grow.
