70th I-Day celebrated in Hamren with fervour

Hamren, August 17: Along with the rest of the country, Independence Day was also celebrated in Hamren in West Karbi Anglong on Monday, with chief guest Deba Kumar th, Deputy Commissioner of West Karbi Anglong announcing development initiatives, meeting the challenges ahead and pledging to take the district forward on the path of peace and progress.

The celebrations marked by unfurling of tricolour, colourful parades and other events, passed off peacefully amid tight security. Soaked in patriotic fervour, hundreds of people took part in events to mark the 70th Independence Day in district headquarters and other cities and towns.

Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar th, in his Independence Day speech at the Hamren Rongbong Ronghang playground, made a strong call to the militants to lay down arms and have talks with the government. He also appealed to the people to maintain commul harmony and peace.

Latter, cultural troupes from different tribes perform their dance and a friendly football exhibition was also organized to mark the occasion.

The celebrating was also attended by former MLA Dr Mansing Rongpi, WKDC BJP president Arun Terang, EM Rupsing Teron, administrative and economic reform board chairman Krish Prasad Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Biswajit Saikia and West Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police,  Mahesh Chandra Sharma.
