76th round of socio-economic survey training begins

Itanagar, June 27: A three-day regional training camp (RTC) on Socio-Economic Survey (76th round) of National Sample Survey (NSS) began here at the Directorate of Economics & Statistics on Tuesday.

The 76th Round of Socio-Economic Survey on “Drinking Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Housing Condition” and “Survey of Persons with Disabilities” will be launched by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) – the premier field survey office under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Govt of India in collaboration with State Directorate of Economics and Statistics, from 1st July to 31st December 2018.

Director of Economics & Statistics B Megu requested all the DSOs and field staffs to complete the survey within the time frame set by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, GoI without compromising the quality of data. Citing NSS being funded by the Central Govt in 80:20 ratio, he cautioned the officers that underperformance may lead to delay in release of fund by the ministry.

Central observer Jagat Hazarika, Joint Director, NSS (NEZ), Guwahati while delivering the keynote address, highlighted on the subject area of 76th Round on “Drinking Water, Sanitation, Hygiene, Housing condition and Persons with Disabilities”.

Attending the inaugural session as chief guest, Parliamentary Secretary for Economics & Statistics Kumsi Sidisow appreciated the efforts of the department in carrying out their business despite acute shortage of manpower.

Responding to a one-point memorandum submitted by the Arunachal Pradesh Economics & Statistics Personnel’s Welfare Association (APESWPA) for shifting of Directorate of Census Operation (DCO), Arunachal Pradesh from Shillong to Itanagar, the Parliamentary Secretary assured to take up the matter at higher ups for consideration.

Secretary, Economics & Statistics, Mimum Tayeng, in her speech, cited the importance of NSS data, which is used by the Central Govt for formulating policies of various welfare schemes. She advised to take up the NSS survey in mission mode, which is of utmost importance in policy/decision making of the Govt.
