9th Prof Bhuban Mohan Das Memorial Lecture Held In Cotton University

GUWAHATI: The Department of Anthropology, Cotton University, commemorated the 11th Death Anniversary of late Prof. Bhuban Mohan Das, a celebrated anthropologist of India and the Northeast by organizing the 9th Prof Bhuban Mohan Das Memorial Lecture on Tuesday in the university. This was stated in a release by the Department of Anthropology, Cotton University.

The oration was delivered by Prof Parthak Sengupta, Professor and Head, Department of Anthropology, Dibrugarh University on the topic ‘Global Gene Flow in Northeast India and Beyond’. The issue has much relevance on the genetic well-being of various communities of the region on which research was initiated by Professor Bhuban Mohan Das himself.

The lecture was attended by noted anthropologists, researchers, students and a galaxy of personalities like Dr AC Mohan Bhagabati, Dr Anil Goswami, Prof Bandana Dutta, Prof Rani Kakoti and many others. The event was also graced by the presence of professors from Anthropology department, Gauhati University, Faculty of Cotton University, and also members of NESRC, Guwahati and TRI.

From the family members of Prof BM Das, his wife Dr Manjumala Das and daughter Dr Srutimala Duara, both academicians of repute, offered floral tributes to the departed soul. Dr Upala Barua, Head of Department of Anthropology, Cotton College, delivered the welcome address and dwelt briefly into the objectives of the meeting.
