A sigh of relief for internet users of Barak Valley as connectivity restored

Our Correspondent

Silchar: The restoration of internet connection of entire Barak Valley which was curbed following the occurrence of an unprecedented incident in Hailakandi district on Friday, has given the people a reason to smile. Internet connection was disabled so as to prevent dissemination of fake, fraud and false news and rumours. People of Barak Valley, also known as ‘Island of Peace’, had to pass these days without the internet. However, officials concerned will keep a vigilant eye on social media activities. Internet connection was disconnected at around 10 pm on Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Digital India’ is a big hit here also despite its geographical disadvantages. Internet facilitates the purchase of railway tickets, air tickets, bus tickets, e-stamp paper, e-filing of tax, mobile recharges, doctor appointment, medicine, LPG booking, e-commerce and appearing in the online test for various educational courses. These services had to be curtailed owing to the disconnection of internet facilities. However now people are happy as internet services have been restored here.
