A teacher’s plea to reschedule award ceremony

Special Correspondent

Silchar: A concerned and conscious teacher of a higher secondary school of this town, Saral Paul, in an email to the Director of Secondary Education Guwahati has pleaded for rescheduling the much acclaimed Anundoram Barooah Award giving ceremony well ahead of or after the Class XI final examination. His argument is that the distribution of laptops among toppers of high school just on the eve of final examination can divert the minds of the teen aged boys and girls from their studies and preparations. Psychologically, the students will like to use the scientific devices which will eventually affect their studies and results.

The teacher in question has come out with his views on the subject for consideration by the higher authority concerned. In fact, it is on the basis of feedback of parents and guardians that the teacher has put forward his suggestion. The distribution of laptops among students is no doubt a most welcomed step of the State government in order to encourage and inspire the examinees to do still better. It is no doubt a sort of incentive to them.

But the award giving ceremony should be rescheduled after the higher secondary Class XI examination is over. For Silchar, the award giving ceremony of 2018 will take place on March 15 and 16 when the examination is round the corner. He hopes the Director of Higher Education would keep in mind his suggestion while declaring the Anumdoram Borooah Award for 2019.
