Tezpur, June 21: A general body meeting of All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AAKRSU) was held on Wednesday here at the Tezpur District Office premises under the presidentship of Jyoti Prasad Baruah, advisor of Sonitpur AAKRSU. The meeting was attended by chief central advisor Dr. Parashmoni Singha and also Laskhmi Barua, president of Mahila Koch Rajbongshi Samity, Sonitpur, among others.
Attending the meeting Dr. Parasmoni Singa, chief central advisor, AAKRSU said that Koch Rajbongshi people of Assam wanted a permanent solution from the Government of India. He also said that since the last 40 years the tribe was fighting for their rights but now the Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram commented against hope of fulfilment of their demand. He accused the BJP-led government at the Centre and the State for not taking this matter seriously and dilly-dallying on the issue. He further added and warned the BJP government not to play Jews policy towards the community.
Laskhmi Barua, district president of Mahila Koch Rajbongshi Samity, added that Jual Oram should properly first study the history of Kochs then he would get the answer whether Kochs were a tribe or not.
